You can apply for a business name at Information Brokers. Registration periods are either one or three years. We will send you reminders when your business name is due for renewal. Our automated service takes the worry out of keeping your business name current at all times.
Who Is It For?
This is for anybody willing to register a business name and with the means to do so. Once you have registered your ABN number, you will need to consider registering a business name to protect your trading position. You might register your ABN number under your name (e.g John Smith), but you want to trade under a business name (e.g Blackwood Plumbing). It will protect your use of the trading name. Some people will use a trading name under their ABN without any official right to use the trading name. Protect your trading name with a business name.
What Do You Get Out Of It?
We offer a simple pathway to having your business name officially registered and recognised by ASIC. In the event of a conflict of name use, the entity with the business name will have more rights in the use of the trading name, than an unregistered user. It should be noted that business name registration is a national process, so if you are located in WA and you wanted the business name Waverley Plumbing, another party could have this registration in another state or territory. In cases like this, you would need to add additional information to the end of the name, (e.g Waverley Plumbing WA).
The Application Process
Search for your desired name using our exclusive search function box. If available, select your registration period of one or three years, add to the shopping cart and complete payment. The application is completed by providing some further details:
- an Australian Business Number (ABN) or ABN reference number
- details of the business owner
- the principal place of business address
- association information (if applicable)
Once the application is complete, it is then submitted to ASIC for processing. Registered Business Names are confirmed via email and are accompanied with a copy of the Business Name certificate.
